What are Smart Assistants (Also called Virtual Assistants)

You must have heard of Siri, Cortana or Google Assistant, That they can talk to you. These are Smart Voice Assistants; They assist you and you can use your mic (microphone) to input voice to talk to them. You can also use keyboard instead.

Apple Siri



If you have a iPhone, iPad or iPod with iOS 8 or Higher ,  You can connect with Apple Siri. Just Say , "Hey Siri" (Pronounced Hey See-Ree) to invoke siri. Not everyone Has Apple Phones, So you can scroll down to find more Smart Assistants.


Google Assistant

Google Assistant is a Smart Assistant for Android Devices and for its Google Home series of Smartspeakers.

To Make use of Google assistant You shall have:

  • Android 5.0 or Higher with at least 1.0 GB Storage Free or
  • Android 6.0 or Higher with at least 1.5 GB storage Free
  • For Voice Search (Google Search Phone App) Version 6.13 or Higher
  • Google Play Services
  • Device's Language Setting
  • 720p or Higher Screen Resolution
It was Launched on 18 May 2016 to replace Google Now (Ancestor of Google Voice Search) to compete with Apple Siri and make availability of a Smart assistant in Android Phones so they do not go towards Apple iPhones just For Siri.

Amazon Alexa



Amazon Alexa is a Smart Assistant Service offered by Amazon Inc. for its Amazon Shopping and other apps (like Kindle) and for its Amazon Echo Range of Smartspeakers. As it says, Amazon Alexa. Just Ask.


Microsoft Cortana




Microsoft Cortana is a Smart Assistant Made for Windows NT Operating System family's latest Version; The Windows 10.
It allows you to Surf the Web, search a term, set reminders, make notes, set alarms, and even more... It is Available only for PC's with Windows 10.

There are even more, Like Samsung's Bixby etc. but are too big to be covered in only one article. Maybe that's another day.
